Mijas is typically divided into three parts-
MijasPueblo:
is a charming Andalucian White Village. You can hardly believe that this hillside village is a part of the bustling tourist town that mijas is. After a 15-minute drive from mijas Pueblo, you can reach the modern entertainment and commercial area of Mijas.
Mijas Costa:
comprises of a 12 kilometre stretch of coastline joining El Chaparral, La Cala, El Combo and Calahonda and takes in the two major urbanizations, Riviera del Sol and Sitio de Calahonda. Life here is modern with all modern infrastructure and entertainment facilities. Villas are available on rent here in a vast range and you will surely find one of your choice with stunning views of the Mediterranean and the beaches.
La Cala de Mijas is the centre of Mijas Costa. This area sports many modern buildings, yet it still maintains something of its Andalucian village by the sea atmosphere.
From being originally a tiny fishing village, its population has increased to 10,000 - many of whom are British. There are schools, a health centre, public library, post office, shops and cultural centre as well as many excellent bars and restaurants.
Las Lagunas is the modern, commercial area with some local industry in Mijas.
Mijas Beaches:
The beaches of Mijas are a part of the splendid Costa Del Sol. The beach life offers water sports ranging from jet skis, waterskiing, wakeboarding, windsurfing, parapenting and more. On the 12 kilometres of coastline that is available in Mijas you will find beaches of all types – from small and quiet coves to busy tourist beach. Some of them, such as the La Cala beach, provide the European Blue Flag for cleanliness.
Other beaches include the El Faro de Calaburras beach, the El Charcon beach, the Calahonda beach, etc.
There is a vast variety of beach bars and restaurants, these are also called “Chiringuitos” here. These bars and restaurants are typical for the region and are popular for their delicious seafood, Andalucian cuisine and all types of drinks. Many of the chiringuitos are only open during the day but some of them also open their doors in the evening and at night when you can sip a cocktail while listening to the music. Some of the popular beaches in Mijas are Cala Mijas, Calahonda, El Chaparral, Torrenueva.
